What We Build

SPECIALIST SYSTEMS

More Than Monitoring And Control

Alongside our core systems, we build and support a range of specialist systems for specific jobs on the shop floor — measuring, tracking, alerting and logging. Each one is engineered in-house and shaped around the process it's serving.

Tally Beam

TALLY BEAM SYSTEM

Automated timber measurement and production tracking for sawmills.

Accurately measuring timber as it moves through a sawmill provides a clear picture of production, output and capacity. Tascomp's Tally Beam Systems automatically identify and count different lengths of timber as they pass along the production line, providing accurate production information in real time.

How It Works
16-Sensor Tally Beam
Positioned over the conveyor to identify the length of each individual piece, so timber is automatically counted and categorised by length — with PlantRun calculating total quantities, meterage and volume.
Operator Console & Touchscreen HMI
A dedicated console gives production staff their interface while housing the system I/O and PC hardware. Product and job information can be entered or selected on the touchscreen.
Job & Product Data
Production data can be associated with Works Order ID, product or wood type, customer ID, quantities, volume and meterage.
System Integration
Integrates with existing production and planning systems to pull relevant job and product information automatically, reducing manual entry.
Automated Labelling
Where required, production information can be printed and associated with the relevant output.
Dashboards & Reporting
Live production information through PlantRun dashboards, with reports giving a detailed record of production by length, job, customer and other criteria.
What It Delivers
Accurate Sizing
Ensures precise cuts and optimises timber usage by reducing sizing discrepancies.
Enhanced Efficiency
Real-time data provides actionable insights that accelerate production and minimise downtime.
Cost Reduction
Reduces reliance on manual labour and boosts machinery performance, lowering overall production costs.
Sustainability
Maximises timber utilisation, significantly reducing waste and promoting more sustainable production practices.

The Tally Beam System provides a dedicated solution for automated timber measurement and production tracking, with the option to expand into wider PlantRun functionality such as OEE, downtime reason tracking, production monitoring, work instructions and SCADA-style visualisation.

Energy & Utilities

ENERGY & UTILITIES MONITORING SYSTEM

Track consumption alongside production in real time, and see what your utilities actually cost you.

With the cost of utilities continuing to rise, the obvious thing to do is to reduce usage. Understanding what is being used, whether it is electricity, fuel, water, gas or steam, is the key to this — and Tascomp's Energy & Utility monitoring systems provide the real-time monitoring and comprehensive analytics needed.

The data is made visible with dashboards showing various KPIs including usage, cost per product and CO2e, and standard reports are automatically generated and emailed to the appropriate people.

They include real-time trend recording for high-speed analysis and half-hourly data recording for standard reporting. Alarm monitoring brings attention to problems before they escalate, or even predicts problems before they begin. The systems cover all the basic requirements and more: tariff charges are included and can be expanded to cover costs per product, per job or per employee. The recorded data is also accessible through SQL and Excel, so AI platforms such as ChatGPT and common tools such as Power BI can be employed to provide additional analysis and display capabilities.

Andon Systems

ANDON SYSTEMS

Raise an issue where it happens, and get the right person to it quickly.

Getting the right person to the right problem quickly can make a significant difference to production performance. Tascomp's Andon Systems provide a simple way for operators to raise issues at the point of occurrence, while giving supervisors, maintenance and management immediate visibility of what is happening.

Two Ways To Deploy It
Standalone Andon
A dedicated four-button operator box and a compact PLC controlling the Andon light stack — a straightforward, low-cost starting point.
Touchscreen-Based
Operators select callout types, enter additional information and interact directly with the PlantRun system.
Call Types

Andon calls can be configured around your own escalation routes.

Maintenance Supervisor Quality Materials
What The System Does
Clear Visual Indication
Andon light stacks show the state of each area at a glance, so a call is visible across the production floor.
Notification & Escalation
More advanced systems provide automatic notifications and escalation, with email and SMS available where required.
Response Tracking
Records how long issues take to acknowledge and resolve, so response performance can be measured rather than assumed.
Recorded In PlantRun
All calls and associated information are recorded, giving useful data for identifying recurring problems. Live dashboards and display screens show outstanding issues across the production area.

The Andon System can therefore be implemented as a straightforward, low-cost starting point, or expanded to incorporate wider PlantRun functionality such as downtime monitoring, OEE, production targets, work instructions and performance dashboards.

Datalogger

DATALOGGER

Accurate, high-resolution recording — from a handful of sensors to a full process record.

The requirement for accurate data is growing, whether that is for a proof-of-process requirement, traceability of batches, or to get a better understanding of a process using AI tools such as Copilot and Gemini.

How It Connects

A wide variety of sensors can be used, and longer-distance wireless connectivity can be deployed where cabling isn't practical.

IIoT via edge gateway devices MQTT communications PLCs via OPC UA and similar interfaces Radio Frequency telemetry LoRaWAN devices
Recording & Visibility
Millisecond Recording
Real-time monitoring with a millisecond data recording capability, so fast-moving events are captured rather than averaged away.
Live Dashboards & Trends
Instant feedback on current status, with configurable real-time trends showing recent history so readings can be understood in context.
Full-Resolution History
Intelligent recording strategies and built-in historic trending let any point in time be accessed at the resolution it was first recorded — yesterday or ten years ago.
Context & Batch Reporting
Real-time data can be augmented with manual entries such as batch ID and operator name, plus automatic date and time stamps — providing a commentary for the recordings and a means of automatically producing batch reports.
Standard Solutions
16
Channels — Analogue Measurement
Linear inputs including 0–10V and 4–20mA.
30
Channels — Temperature Monitoring
Thermocouple inputs including K-type.
